Super Eagles to Play Argentina in a Friendly in November


The Super Eagles of Nigeria will tackle Argentina in an international friendly in November as part ofthe build-up to the 2018 World Cup for which bothcountries have qualified.
This was confirmed Saturday by the Argentina Football Association, AFA, adding that the high-profile friendly will be played in the Russian city of Krasnodar on 14 November,BBCwrites.
Fittingly, the Albiceleste considerthree-time African champions Nigeria,who became the first African country to book a spot in Russia, as toughopposition as they prepare for their Russia Mundial.
It will be the eighth time that both countries are locking horns at senior international level, with Argentina currently leading the series 5-1.
The last time both sides met was at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, withLionel Messiinspiring Argentina to a 3-2 win to avenge their bitter 4-1 defeat to the Eagles three years earlier in Abuja.Overall, the two-time world champions have beaten Nigeria four times at the World Cup, with the West Africans losing by the odd goal in each of the matches.
Argentina edged Nigeria 2-1 in 1994, 1-0 in 2002 and 2010, as well as the thrilling 3-2 at the last World Cup tournament.It ended in a goalless draw the first time both sides met at the 1995 Fifa Confederations Cup in Saudi Arabia.
Argentina, who needed alast-gasp intervention from talisman Messi to qualify for the Mundial, next face Russia in a friendly in Moscow on 11 November, while Nigeria’s next international match will be the dead rubber in Algeria in their final World Cup qualifying match on 10 November.
