Andy Murray Bows Out Despite Taking Roberto Bautista Agut To Five Sets

Two times Wimbledon Champion, Andy Murray was beaten 6-4 6-4 6-7(5) 6-7(4) 6-2 by Spain’s Roberto Bautista Agut in the first round of the 2019 Australian Open on Monday in what was an emotional roller-coaster of a game for everyone involved.

Murray had revealed earlier that he was retiring from professional tennis due to painand he played with it throughout the four hours match, which got the spectators behind him and his family holding back tears.

The Spaniard ran away with the first two sets 6-4 6-4 6 and looked to have the matchunder wraps, but Murray fought back and won the next two sets 6-7(5) 6-7(4) 6-2 to force a fifth set, despite playing through obvious pain.

The fans were solidly behind him as well as many watching from home. But his hip was not on his side and it was only a matter of time before it let him down finally despite Murray’s gutsy display.
Bautista Agut eventually curtailed Murray’s momentum to break the Scot twice and roarto a 5-1 lead. 

Murray continued to rally through the pain and also fought back tears.
His efforts were in vain though as the Spaniard served the match winner after fourhours and nine minutes.
Murray acknowledged his own feat and called the match an amazing one: “If this was my last match, it was an amazing way to end.
”As fans held their breath, he gave them one last hope.‘Maybe I’ll see you again’ He said, not closing the door on his career yet.
