There were chaotic scenes along Ilorodu Road,Lagosafter the driver of Bus Rapid Transit, RT, crushed and severed the head of a yet to be identified school pupil.
The accident, which occurred at the Ogolonto Bus Stop, led to traffic gridlock as sympathisers and passers-by trooped to the scene amid wailing and tears duringthe morning rush.It is understood that the boy, a 13-year-old was trying to dash across the BRT corridorthe Ogolonto Bus stop when the fast moving bus suddenly hit him and cut off his head from the rest of his body.
While eyewitnesses said the pupil had miscalculated the flag man’s signal for pedestrians to cross, the driver of the BRT bus was said to have taken to his heels immediately after the incident for fear of possible mob action against him.
Vanguardreports that men of the Rapid Response Squad, RRS and other security agencies were on ground to maintain law and order reign in the area while men of the Lagos State Traffic Management Agency, LASTMA, were drafted to ensure free flow of traffic.It is understood that officials of the Lagos State Environmental Health Monitoring Unit, LASEHMU have been contacted to take the remains of the lifeless body of thepupil to mortuary, while Primero Transport company, owner and operator of the BRT buses, confirmed the incident saying,
“We have commenced initial investigation into the ugly incident to determine the cause for further action.
“However, we commiserate with the familyand colleagues of the deceased, God will give them the fortitude to bear the loss.”
