Mike Tyson Deported Over Criminal Record


Boxing legend Mike Tyson was barred from entering Chile on Thursday because of his criminal record, reports claim.

The incident happened at the Santiago international airport, where Immigration police tweeted a photo of the 51-year-oldformer heavyweight champion of the worldbeing escorted by officers ‘re-embarking’ him,Daily Mailwrites.“Detectives from the International Police are re-boarding Mike Tyson for not complying with immigration law,”the PDI said on its verified Twitter account on Thursday, alongside a photograph of Tyson walking in an airport with two individuals wearing PDI jackets.
The police force explained it had the power to“prohibit the entry into the country of any foreigner who has negative records and/or convictions in their country of origin.”
Local media reported that theAmerican former world heavyweight championwas planning to attend an awards ceremony for action films taking place in Santiago, Chile’s capital.In 1992, Tyson was convicted of raping teenaged beauty pageant contestant Desiree Washington inhis hotel room in Indianapolis, Indiana. 
He was sentenced to six years in prison but released on parole after serving three.
This had a devastating effect on his career, as theonce untouchable heavyweight champ would never reach the heady heights he attained in the late 1980s and early 1990s.His criminal record also includes convictions for assault and cocaine possession since hisretirement from the sport.
This isn’t the first time he has been barred from acountry for his lengthy rap sheet.In 2013, Tyson was forced to scrap promotional appearances in London because the convictions barred him from entering Britain, while in 2012, New Zealand denied him entry after a charity that was going to benefit from his visit dropped its support due to his rape conviction.
