Former Vice PresidentAtiku Abubakarhas defected from the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC. He announced the news of his resignation from the party in a statement issued on Friday morning.
His departure from the ruling party has also been confirmed on Twitter by one of his spokespersons, Paul Ibe who tweets from the handle @omonlakiki.H.E.@atiku has resigned from the All Progressives Congress.
@AtikuOrg— Paul Ibe (@omonlakiki)November 24, 2017Atiku who was Vice President during the tenure of Olusegun Obasanjo as President, was a member of the former ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Mr Atiku defected to the then rival APC.
He contested the presidential primaries of the APC against President Muhammadu Buhari and came a disappointing third behind Buhari and the former governor of the Kano State, Rabiu Kwakwanso.
There has been no love lost between him and the present administration, and he once complained in an interview of being sidelined after working for the election of Buhari.
