Watch Singer Asa Talk About Losing Her Virginity at 28

Funmi Iyanda has published a never-seen-before interview of singerAsa in which the Dead Againsinger shared her rising to the spotlight, her relationship with her mother, getting the big breakin France, losing her virginity at 28, and more.
Speaking about keeping herself until she turned 28, she said she called her manager and her mum, and told them about her ‘predicament’–thatshe wanted to have sex for the first time and was unsure how it would go down.
“[My mum] was shocked that I was actually a very late starter. And my mum had no advice; the only thing she could shyly say was, ‘hmm, it will be painful at first’,” the singer recalled.
And when Ms. Iyanda asked her to reconfirm her claims– that she was actually a virgin until 28, Asa nodded in the affirmative.
“I am ashamed to say [it],” she said, and as the audience exploded in cheers and applause, she added, “No, no. Don’t clap for me. I am not proud.”
Asked if she stayed away from sex because she was shy, the singer said, “Iwas shy. I was somewhere else, in a place where I needed to carry the world on my shoulder and I needed to focus on my career.”

Asa also spoke about the inspiration behind the song Dead Again, and how the idea was nurtured by a private conversation she had with Funmi Iyanda.
She revealed that after the demo version where she put in all her anger into the song, she couldn’t sing it again with such passion, such fire.
“Each time I tried to redo it, I’d lost the fire, I’d lostpurpose. I’d almost moved on there,” she said. And she said more, how Funmi Iyanda had inspired many of her songs, plus the unkind insinuation people made about her sexuality.
