2018 World Cup: Cameroon’s Lions will have Super Eagles for Dinner – Mboma

Lions tipped to tear eagles apart

Cameroon legend Patrick Mboma has tipped the Indomitable Lions to do a number on the Super Eagles when both sides clash in a 2018 World Cup qualification double-header in September.
Mboma, now a commentator for Canal Plus, gave his opinion to a gathering of Nigerian journalists during the Caf symposium on African football organised in Rabat, Morocco.
According to Cameroon’s all-time leading scorer, the outcome of the crucial clash is a foregone conclusion as the African champions know how to handle their West African rivals, Sports Vanguard writes.
“The result is already known”, the lanky striker he said, laughing. “Cameroon will break hearts of Nigerians on September 1”. “As it was in the beginning, Cameroon will win in Nigeria and win in Cameroon. We know how to handle Nigeria.”

Nigeria and Cameroon have fierce rivalry dating back to the 1960s but Mboma said Nigerians should remember the 2000 African Cup of Nations final where they denied the Eagles the chance of winning the Cup, albeit controversially.
“That victory was painful to Nigerians and that is exactly what we are coming back to do on September 1,” Mboma, who was one of the scorers in the final in Lagos, said.
Reminded of the 2004 AFCON in Tunisia where Jay Jay’s magical free kick and Utaka’s goal sent them crashing, Mboma acknowledged that games between Nigeria and Cameroon are always tough but noted that the five-time African champions had inflicted more painful defeats on their Nigerian opposites.
The Super Eagles have the advantage going into the clash as they top the group with a four-point gap, and will look to consolidate their position and pick the lone spot ahead of the Lions to hoist Nigeria’s flag in Russia.
