Lagos Cancels N844bn Contract for 4th Mainland Bridge, Blames FG for Airport Road

The Lagos state government has cancelled the N844 billion contract it entered into in 2016 for the construction of the 4th mainland bridge.
The contract had the Africa Finance Corporation (AFC), Access Bank, Visible Assets Ltd and other investors listed as partners in the construction of the much awaited 4th mainland bridge.
Commissioner for Waterfront and Infrastructure Development Adebowale Akinsanya at a press conference on Monday cited the delay in take-off of the project as reason for the termination of the contract.
Akinsanya however stated that the Lagos state government was already considering proposals from foreign investors in the United States of America and Britain to accelerate the commencement of the project.
The commissioner assured residents that the government would soon name appropriate investors for the construction of the 38 kilometre bridge.
Meanwhile, the state government has continued to blame the bad state of the Lagos airport road on lack of cooperation from the federal government.
The state of the road was at the centre of a recent media spat between Governor Akinwunmi Ambode and his predecessor, Mr Babatunde Fashola; now the federal minister of works, power and housing.
On Monday, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Works and Infrastructure, Temidayo Erinle, speaking on the airport road project, said:
“We are yet to get FederalGovernment’s approval. We assure Lagosians that whenever we get approval, engineers will move to site.
The Nation reports that Erinle however added the state government was “collaborating with the Federal Government on the Apapa road because it is a federal road.”
