11 out of 20 managers lost their jobs in the Premier League this season-see list and reason

1. Dick Advocaat - Sunderland (Resigned, October 4): The first managerial casualty of the campaign was voluntary,with Advocaat walking away from the Black Cats after failing to win in the first eight games of the season.

2. Brendan Rodgers - Liverpool (Sacked, October 4): An uninspiring start to the season and a draw in the Merseyside derby spelled the end for Rodgers shortly after Advocaat’s resignation.

3. Tim Sherwood - Aston Villa (Sacked, October 25): An FA Cup final and top-flight survival earned Sherwood some credit in the bank but six defeats on the bounce saw the axe swing.

4. Gary Monk - Swansea City (Sacked, December 9): A shock dismissal despitethe Swans' poor form, but it proved the correct decision in the end as his replacement Francesco Guidolin ensured another year of Premier League survival.

5. Jose Mourinho - Chelsea (Sacked, December 17): Binned from Chelsea for the second time in his career after a torrid spell which started with the ugly demotion of Eva Caneiro.

6. Steve McClaren - Newcastle United (Sacked, March 11): McClaren won just seven of his 31 matches in charge of the Magpies, who waited too long to pull the trigger and paid the price with relegation.

7. Remi Garde - Aston Villa (Mutual consent, March 29): Officially mutual consent, but the writing was on the wall for Garde after just two wins in 20 games.

8. Roberto Martinez - Everton (Sacked, May 12): One win in 10 games signalledthe end for Martinez after three years at the club.

9. Quique Sanchez Flores - Watford (Terminated contract, May 15) : To the surprise of many, Flores parted ways with the Hornets despite ensuring Premier League survival and a 13th-place finish.

10. Manuel Pellegrini - Manchester City ( Experied  contract, May 15) parted ways with Pellegrini after they opted not to renew his contract and announced his successor Pep Guardiola earlier on in the season. 

11. Louis van Gaal - Manchester United (Sacked, May 23): The Dutchman was finally shown the door despite winning the FA Cup just two days earlier.
